Forum Restaurant is one of the best known 3-star Michelin eateries in Hong Kong that is operated by Ambassador of Chinese Cuisine Yeung Koon Yat.  As frequented by the local and international glitterati, spatial configuration and circulation are important components to ensure exclusivity and linked experiences throughout the restaurant. The complexity of the internal planning was bound up with the linear shape of the restaurant and confined location of the kitchen and toilets, to which we have found an answer to divide the restaurant into 3 zones along the horizontal axis: reception foyer, main dining hall, and VIP rooms + floor.

The Restaurant greets the customers with its solemn reception foyer, characterized by the bespoke interlocking dimensional screen, which then diverges into 2 circulation spaces; one to main dining hall and another to private rooms and floor.  The route from entrance to main dining hall is short and direct. However, with the VIP rooms + floor located at the rear of the restaurant, it is a constraint and at the same time an interesting challenge to create an unique walking experience from the entrance to these private rooms.  Such experience is crafted through the ironic interpretation of 3 elements of culinary art through interior design elements: Culture, History, Sensory Appreciation. The interpretation starts from the offset puzzled screen embossed with perforation of an oversized Chinese painting, named “Bamboo”, along the corridor highlighting the Culture of Art with contemporary representation that can be seen both in culinary art and interior design.  At the end of this corridor, the bronze sculpture of Mr Yeung Koon Yat is installed to stamp the History of this legendary “Abalone King”.
